Kerala SPCB Issues Guidelines For Preventing Sewage Pollution From Establishments
The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) vide Notification no.PCB/HO/SEE-3/TECH/6/2017 has issued guidelines for preventing sewage pollution from establishments. Due to a lack of awareness of what is going on in the tanks, there may be instances of water seepage from the tanks contaminating groundwater. Thus, considering this the following guidelines are issued: (1) Sewage treatment plant shall be constructed above ground level/cellar of the establishment. (2) There shall be easy access to each and every treatment unit for inspection. Sufficient sampling points shall be provided to facilitate the collection of samples. Lighting arrangements shall be provided in the sewage treatment plant area. (3) TOD type of energy meter shall be installed exclusively for the Sewage treatment plant. The water meter shall be fixed to record the consumption of water. The design criteria and guidelines for STP for flats and commercial establishments enclosed along with this circular shall be considered for processing consent application and assessing STP proposal.
